Let's get started:

1. Introduction to D365 Business Central

This is the first step to getting started with Business Central. You can start by creating a Microsoft Business Central account, or if you already have a Microsoft Office 365 account, you can get started right away.

You can create your account using the link "Start Your Free Trial", which will redirect you to Business Central’s official web page.

2. Signing into Business Central

To connect your operations across your small or medium-sized business, you will have to login into Business Central using the following two options:

  • Sign into Business Central with Office 365 Account

To access Business Central through Microsoft 365, simply login to your Microsoft account and browse through the collection of business applications available. This way, you can easily access all your Microsoft apps in one convenient location.

To get started, visit the Microsoft 365 sign-in page and enter your login credentials. Once you've logged in, you'll see a list of available apps on the left-hand side of the screen. Look for Business Central in the list, or use the Search feature to find it quickly:

  • Accessing Dynamics 365 Business Central Directly

Business Central offers you direct access to its dashboard:

  1. You do not want to sign in for the first time.
  2. Your browser knows the login credentials that you already entered while accessing office 365 login details.

3. Using a Demo Database

When you sign into Business Central for the first time, you'll enter the demo company CRONUS. You can manage multiple companies in Business Central and can add more yourself.

The company you're currently working in is shown on the top-left of the page, and the environment is displayed on the top-right.

You can switch to another company in the same environment or another environment from there.

From the My Settings menu, you have the option to switch to another company as well.

The demo company in Business Central provides functional domain coverage for exploring and confirming all features, including sales quotes, orders, and invoices. You can change data, implement available functions, and try out various scenarios. You can create a new company with sample data anytime to get a fresh demo experience.

Using the demo company you can make your Business Central exploration easier through various learning paths. Check the Company Information page to verify your trial subscription level and upgrade to premium to access manufacturing and service management functions.

4. Get Started with your own Data to Experience More

The CRONUS demo company provides demo data and configurations for all functional domains in Business Central. In addition to that, you can set up your own company in Business Central using two methods:

  • You can activate a 30-day trial company with your own company data.
  • Alternatively, you can create a new company.

How to use your own company data to activate a 30-day trial company?

It is possible to begin a Business Central Trial company using your own data.

If you choose to "Configure a Company" from the message on your role center page, you will start a wizard that can help you create a new company with compatibility for your own company data.

Once you agree to the Terms and Conditions, you can begin your FREE trial.

To begin your first trial of business central, you will need to provide essential details about your company.

These details will appear on external documents like sales invoices and will include your company logo and bank information.

Thus, it is necessary to configure your fiscal/economic/budget year during this step.

Note: You can upload your company logo now too.

The wizard prompts you to set your company's budget year start, which you may skip and configure later.

Next, specify your inventory costing method before beginning to use your company.

It comes with some setup, master, and supplemental data, including default G/L accounts and regional data.

However, you must manually “add” or “import” any other necessary data, using built-in tools like assisted setup or configuration packages.

How to Create your New Company?

Go to "My Settings" page and create a "new company" if needed.

By accessing this page, you can navigate to the Allowed Companies page, where you have the option to create a new company using a wizard. To initiate this process, simply select "New."

This wizard can create three unique types of companies:

  • Evaluation – With Sample Data

This creates a company like the demonstrated company with sample data and setup data.

  • Production – With Setup Data

This option creates a company like when you activated the 30-day trial, but with some setup data and without real sample data.

  • Create new – With No Data

This step helps you create a blank company, but without any setup data.

How to Extend or Cancel your Organization's Trial Subscription?

To extend or cancel your Dynamics 365 Business Central trial subscription, follow these steps:

Step – 1: Sign-in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Step – 2: In the left-hand menu, select "Billing > Subscriptions".

Step – 3: Find your Business Central trial subscription and click the "ellipsis (...)" to expand the options.
